Our client, The Bermuda Zoological Society (BZS), support charity for the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ), invites applications for the below listed position. Key Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervise and lead the Junior Volunteer Programme on Sundays to help develop, organize and manage events, activities and trips, including evenings and weekends. • Manage WILD Encounters for members and visitors includes leading marine excursions, above and in-water teaching experiences for a variety of age groups while snorkeling. • Organize and assist with the planning of classroom and lecture series for a variety of age groups on weekends and evenings. ⚫ Responsible for teaching, organizing and running the BZS Camps, including Aqua and Nonsuch Natural History Camp. • Liaise with BZS Education Department volunteers to organize materials needed for classes and other programmes. • Conduct classes and assist the Teacher Development Workshops to support the BZS Schools Programme as requested. • Assists with the development, organization and running of the Bermuda Turtle Project, Biennial Environmental Youth Conference as requested. • Maintain operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing programme, operational, and personnel policies and procedures. • Understanding of the policies and missions of the BZS / BAMZ / ACP and has good knowledge of the exhibits, programmes, and services offered • Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing related results as needed.
University degree in a related field (e.g. Environmental Studies / Science, Biology, Zoology, etc.) or equivalent work experience; Teaching certificate; 2 years or more in teaching natural history science about Bermuda to a variety of ages; prior experience in developing and organizing education programmes, excursions and activities; proven experience of instructional and learning strategies and various teaching/learning techniques; in-depth knowledge of Bermuda's natural history and environments; ability to handle live animals humanely and confidently while teaching about them; able to lead marine excursions, overnight camps and field trips, including snorkeling in the open ocean; Excellent swimmer with advanced snorkeling skills is required, SCUBA or pilots license would be an asset; prior experience working with volunteers and a variety of age groups; First Aid, CPR, and SCARS trained; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; able and willing to work evenings and weekends; able to work 20 hours per week.
